D is for Dragons

I Love Sci-Fi/Fantasy Because...

...of DRAGONS!

More than distant landscapes and legendary relics...
More than medieval battles and wicked wizards...
More than castles, moats, armor and shields...
More than even magic itself, I love dragons!

I love them, be they good dragons or bad.  Sly, wiley or wise; ancients and hatchlings alike, I love them all.  I love their cunning, their power, their mystery and majesty.

Dragons are what I love most about science fiction and fantasy.

And dragons bearing gifts, I treasure above all!

  1. Doesn't everyone love dragons! How could anyone not love them? They are epic.

  2. I really, really want a pet dragon. Or two.

    1. Why stop at one or two? Instead of walking the dragon, they could be flying the human!

  3. Could I have a dragon like in Dragonheart? The one that sounded like Sean Connery. . .I liked him better than the nasty ones in 'Reign of Fire'.

    1. Connery has the perfect voice for doing almost anything like that.

  4. I love dragons, possibly because I was born in the year of the dragon.

  6. Dragons are awesome. My favourite dragon is the one not trying to eat me. Then the one who'd take me on an awesome adventure.

    1. Yes, you have to pop their snouts when they try to eat your guests. It's part of how to train your dragon.

  7. I can't believe this! I just wrote about dragons too! And that was before I saw this post. Great fantasy lovers think alike.

  8. I love dragons. Some of the best writing times I ever had was writing a YA fantasy novel about dragons.

    1. Me too. Someone says, "I wrote a fantasy" book/story, I immediate ask (at least inwardly) "does it have dragons?"

    1. They would definitely cut down on bullying if we had taken them to school with us!

  12. Sorry, I'm not a big sci-fi fan. My husband is. The only thing I really know about dragons is the song - "Puff the Magic Dragon". But I CAN appreciate your love of something, AND the cartoon is funny!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. The cartoon was drawn by--and a gift from--Father Dragon himself. Fantastic dragon, that Al.

  14. I can't wait to see how Smaug turns out in the Hobbit part 2! Peter Jackson has said that he wants Smaug to be the dragon everyone will think of when they say the word dragon... Pretty bold claim Sir Jackson, bring it on!

    1. Jackson has set the expectations bar pretty high. I do hope he can deliver.

  15. That's true - you'll find them in both genres.

    1. There's that "a" again... Dragons need dragon friends so they won't be lonely. You want a "family" of dragons, Sara. (At least I do.)

  17. Hey Jeff,

This the second article on drag, sorry dragons, I've seen in the amazing alphabet challenge! :) I also love dragons. Puff was my hero. And never mind St. Patrick's Day. Time to celebrate St. George's Day. I mean the dude was into messing around with dragons. Sorry, that didn't sound right.

And before my comment starts to dragon, I'm going now!

    Gary :)

  21. I had to come back to read this post. I did see this picture before, didn't realise you were Sir Jeff the champion dwarf tosser. Like everyone else, I would love to partner with a dragon, Al is the nearest I have come to it. Of course they have to be mind talkers at least so we can converse.

    1. Yes, I am the world class dwarf tossing champion as judged by Father Dragon himself. In a pinch, I'll even grab a dwarf by the beard, but only in a pinch. They're a little sensitive there.

Al's gift of the picture to me is something I really do cherish.
